Statement on Tuesday Night World Ride Tragedy

On behalf of Asheville on Bikes, I’m heartbroken to share that two people were killed last night while participating in the weekly Tuesday Night World ride along Riverside Drive in Madison County.

According to WLOS, Lt. Joshua Dowdle reported: “Yesterday at 6:42 p.m., a dump truck traveling east on N.C. 251 struck three bicyclists traveling west. Two of the bicyclists were pronounced dead at the scene, while the third was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.”

The Tuesday Night World ride is a longstanding Asheville tradition. Our hearts go out to the riders, their families, and everyone impacted by this tragedy.

We will continue to follow updates and share verified information as it becomes available. For now, we hold space to grieve the lives lost and support one another through this painful time.

With deepest sympathy,
