Cycle Smart Course and Bicycle Ticket Diversion Program

AoB is proud to support the following programs that support safe and smart bicycle riding.

Cycle Smart – Safe Riding Course

If you want to gain confidence, experience, and knowledge about safe bicycling practices, Cycle Smart is the course for you! This three-hour course provides instruction in essential bicycling safety practices and includes a combination of classroom instruction, bicycle skill development, and on-road instruction. Cycle Smart uses the League of American Bicyclists (LAB) national curriculum and is taught by LAB-certified instructors. Buncombe County Bike Ed offers Cycle Smart the second Saturday of each month from April through October (except July) at Senior Opportunity Center at 35 Grove Street at 10 am. Enrollment is $15. Learn more on the Cycle Smart website or email cyclesmartbuncombe@gmail.com to learn more or to enroll.

Bicycle Ticket Diversion Program

Did you know that you can be fined and even have points added to your driving record if you commit traffic law violations on your bicycle? Now you do! Beginning in June 2017, AoB is proud to partner with the Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office and Buncombe County Bike Ed to offer a Bicycle Ticket Diversion Program, the first of its kind in North Carolina. Through the program, cyclists charged with minor traffic violations have the option to have any associated fines dismissed upon completion of the three-hour Cycle Smart course.
