The Bright Light Biker

Pedallers,

Let’s shed some light by riding a bike.

The Bright Light Biker, a community ride throughout downtown Asheville designed to highlight all aspects of the cycling community. AoB’s featured guest is the Simons family.
Saturday, December 12th

4:00pm – Pedal w/ pride throughout our downtown streets

5:00pm – Culminate the celebration @ Asheville Brewing Company on Coxe Ave.

The recent ruling in the Diez case has created outrage throughout the cycling community on a national and local level. The story has been covered extensively in the Mountain Xpress and has been picked up by several national media outlets.

Cyclists are teeming with frustration over the lax sentencing of a man who was found guilty of shooting a cyclist. In the face of this set back, it’s important to remember that Asheville has made significant steps toward establishing a bicycle friendly city.

A few of our recent accomplishments include:

1) Feb. 26th 2008- Ongoing
The passing and implementation of the Bicycle Comprehensive Plan

2) April 18th 2009- Ongoing
Healthy Buncombe established the bicycle rodeo and reporting system of bicycle and pedestrian harassment

3) June 24th 2009
Asheville installs the first round of bicycle lockers

4) June 20th 2009- Ongoing
SORBA’s Richmond Hill mountain bike trail construction begins.

It’s important to recognize that volunteers from the cycling community have made each one of these steps possible. We are a diverse group who believes in the value of cycling. We are active in advancing Asheville’s bicycle culture and infrastructure. We are moving forward and making change.

On Saturday, Dec. 12th Asheville on Bikes hosts the Bright Light Biker, a community ride throughout downtown Asheville designed to highlight all aspects of the cycling community. AoB’s featured guest is the Simons family.  Join us for a family friendly ride where the tone will be one of celebration and unity.

Ride your City and Roll it Forward.
