Bike Funding Endangered

Funding for bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure in North Carolina is essentially scheduled for termination. We need your emails to NCDOT (North Carolina Department of Transportation) expressing your displeasure today, as the public comment period ends THIS Friday, February 21st. Imagine our collective power as we speak up NOW!

We need your emails, folks. Check out your One-minute Advocacy Exercise below.

For background, read this article published by NCATA (NC Alternative Transportation Alliance) in the Charlotte Observer last week.

ACTION STEPS: One-minute Advocacy Exercise

  1. Please COPY AND PASTE the following suggested statement into an email, editing it if you like.
  2. “I am contacting you to express my considerable displeasure at current NCDOT plans that will make funding for bicycle and pedestrian improvements more difficult to obtain. I believe that funding for non-motorized transportation as an equal and necessary component of our state’s transportation system enhances quality of life for all of North Carolinians (either directly or indirectly through economic benefits from improved health, robust business climate, and tourism).”
  3. ADDRESS your email to this NCDOT address: Copy our MPO, Land of Sky ( and NCDOT District 13 Representative David Brown ( if you live in District 13 (Counties of Buncombe, Burke, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Rutherford and Yancey).
  4. Hit SEND. Congratulations! You show, we grow.
